Michael D. Blostein

Conductor

As a conductor, Mr. Blostein works to reach each performer in a manner that they can relate to and understand, feel a sense of accomplishment, and yet challenge them to constantly improve. In addition to working with school groups, he is the conductor of the Delmar Community Orchestra (fall season)

Below are some conducting videos, which will give you a better idea of rehearsal and performance technique. These are small samples only, and please remember these are school rehearsals and performances.

This is from our Chamber Orchestra's performance of William Grant Still's "Danzas de Panama" at the official New York State Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration in 2009.

This is from a combined middle school / high school rehearsal. Even though each group had worked on the composition ("Night Shift" by Richard Meyer) individually, this was their first combined rehearsal.

This is from a rehearsal with a more advanced but smaller string orchestra, working on an arrangement of W.C. Handy's "St. Louis Blues".

This is the dress rehearsal for the original composition "A Legend of Paul Bunyan", with Mike Wilkinson on trombone and W. Allan Kirk narrating.
